Road Trip Kindnesses

I need to reminisce just a bit more . . .

We were just a-tooling along on Day 7 of our 09 Avant Road Trip when Hunks had an idea. Well, he always has lots of ideas . . . most of them very good, sometimes not so much. But this time it was a very good idea.

He was interested in having the oil changed in the car, especially since we were nearly halfway through our trip and he wanted to take preventative measures instead of having a real problem. So . . . with my trusty Propel phone in hand, I googled for a foreign car service center in Kingman, Arizona. Only one came up. Salem and Sons. So we set the Garmin GPS to 3600 North Glen Avenue, Kingman, Arizona, and continued on our merry away.

Of course that was after a couple phone calls to make sure they could do the task and had the right oil on hand. They did.

We arrived shortly before the noon hour at their doorstep and were pleasantly surprised, as we have been right along on this trip, of how we have continually met very nice, helpful, and interested people. And that goes for John Salem of Salem and Sons.

They quickly had the car up on the hoist and Hunks was able to be in the shop inspecting things along with the mechanic. It crossed my mind, while I sat patiently in this shoeshine chair in the lobby, that might have been the real reason he wanted the oil change so he could get to know the one part of the car he hadn't looked at yet.I guess that's all beside the point, though, because before long our stomachs were growling for some lunch. Without hesitation, I inquired as to someplace to have lunch that wasn't a chain restaurant. And with an equal amount of non-hesitation, Mr. Salem told me Redneck's Barbeque was the place for lunch.

He even drew us a map so we would have absolutely no issues finding the best barbeque in Kingman. So, we thanked Mr. John Salem, who also turns out to be the Mayor of Kingman, paid Salem and Sons for wonderful service, and drove away, our mouths watering at the prospect of barbeque.

We were not disappointed. Our plans right along had been to get barbeque in Kansas City, Missouri . . . now we had something to compare it to.

So we ate barbeque, coleslaw, beans, and mac and cheese, we drank sweet tea, and we filled our bellies.
